Six Days Old!!! 3/28/11

Me taking a well deserved break.
Such a cute little snuggler. Already hamming it up for the camera!!
Look!! My babies eyes are starting to open!! Now they'll be able to see me better!! Funny thing, this little ones eyes weren't open this far until 10-20 seconds before. They budged a little bit more when little one moved around!!

Five Days old!! 3/27/2011

This is my rolly polly baby. Pretty sure this is a boy!!

Because I'm such a nice and gentle mommy, I let my human foster mommy pick up my babies. If they cry, I'll look out to check on them but it doesn't really bother me. Usually my foster mommy will put them back in the basket with me once they start crying anyway. I'm glad she does that! The picture on the left is so cute, my baby was yawning.

Four Days old! 3/26/11 Umbilicals and fun

My babies are four days old today. Three of my little one's umbilical cords have fallen off, one probably will in the next day. If you look closely in the picture below you can see their shriveled up cords on the blanket.

Aren't my babies the most adorable things you've ever seen?

Now I'll start doing Q&A if anyone has any questions and cat, kittens, pregnancy, labor, birth, caring for kittens, etc. Then I'm your gal. And if don't know the answer, my foster mommy will be glad to help me out!!!

Signing off,
B

Labor and Kittens!!!

These two are of me right before I went into labor. It was an easy labor. I went into labor around 3. By 4:30 I've already had two kittens. I've never had kittens before, but it was easy figuring out what I needed to do. I had all four by 6:30. So all in all 3 1/2 hours of labor.. so easy compared to those humans!

Me nursing my babies. I picked up real easy on this mommy thing!

Mom thought this was too cute.. One of my babies was cozied between my leg and tail.

These are my babies!!! They're all tabbies. One of them is a little darker than the others and one is grey. I hope there will be some white on some of them like I have!

Still waiting..

I'm still waiting for my kittens to be here! I'm getting impatient. I'm terrified about something going wrong as this is my first labor. Since I'm so young and this is my first and last litter, I'm not sure if I'll know what labor is until one of the kittens comes out!

I'm feeling them move around alot.. like they're fighting already! It could be any day now. Tuesday would be great because my foster mommy is off work that day, so she could be with me and assist if needed.

I'll let you know as soon as I know labor is coming!! Keep checking!!

babies moving

The other day, my foster mommy was able to witness the kicking of one of the little ones in my belly. She was like a preschooler who just met Elmo in person.

I am getting along well. I'm still able to jump on the bookshelf to look out the window, and then quickly jump down to greet my foster mommy and daddy. My belly is getting bigger everyday, and that bowl of food.. well let's just say I'm eating a little more than I normally would of. (ok, ok..  ALOT more) but it's ok, I'm supposed to fill up right now!

One of the most fun things right now, is not holding still. Mom wants to feel my babies kick EVERYTIME she comes in my room. But I'd much rather have my ears and head scratch. So, now I'm making a game out of it, and have to keep moving around. But tonight, she was able to feel more of what I feel all the time. The babies were moving around a good amount for her to feel.

I'm still technically a kitten, so I do like to play some. If there's a ball or toy around, I'll bat it around. But for the most part, I just lie around and then enjoy the attention I get when someone's in the room. I've got a little voice and make sure everyone hears me. My daddy thinks I have a funny cry and a weird (maybe liquidy) purr. Whatever.. he's silly and I'm cute so it doesn't matter. I do like napping under the covers with my foster daddy.

Hopefully we'll see some kitties soon. And hopefully, my great Aunt Christine will have her baby soon, better be before mine, since I'm at least a week or two out.

The beginning of my story.

Hi I'm Bastet, and this is my story.

So on March 2, 2011, a nice lady found me wandering around outside of Apex Elementary and took me in. Of course she had to check me over, and guess what she found! My protruding belly, now she knew better and didn't think I was fat. I'm just pregnant.
She contacted Second Chance Pet Adoptions, who said they'd be delighted to have me! So the next day, I went in where they fussed over me, gave me shots, all the stuff I now know that I don't enjoy. But I understand they have to do it, but I really didn't like it. So now, I'm staying with two real nice people, Stacy and Erik. I have a room all to myself with no kitties, wild animals or scary noises to bother me. I feel so much better now that I'm inside where I don't have to worry about the hot and cold and rainy weather that this silly state seems to have all the time! All I have to worry about is keeping this babies warm and well fed!

I can't really remember where my life started. But my foster mommy says I'm too sweet to not have been loved by someone. She says that cats that aren't loved by someone, can sometimes learn to be wild. Now, I'm just too wonderful to be that way! When I went into Second Chance, they said they think that I am only 10 months old. They think that this is my first litter of kittens because I am so young. And, man, I'm glad that it's my last! My foster mommy told me that once I have my babies, I get to nurse and love them. But once they're old enough to be without me, we will all go the vet who will make sure we don't have to worry about taking care of anyone but ourselves for the rest of our lives.

(Don't tell mom this, but I was borrowing her computer and found out this great information about spaying and neutering your cat (or even your dog, if you have one of those scary big things!)

I am named after the Egyptian goddess, Bast. But in order for the common-folk to think it's for a girl, not a silly boy kitty, she named me Bastet- which is another form of the name.) This is what they say is the original Bast: Mother of all cats, embodiment of the warmth of sunshine, and goddess of the East, this deity in cat form was one of the most popular in all of Egypt. Cats of course were the most sacred of all animals to the Egyptians, but the black cat was particularly sacred to Bast. As a result, the physicians of the time would use the icon of a black cat in their healing practices. She was also considered the goddess of pleasures, which covered a lot of territory. Among many of the things that fell under her patronage were: generosity, music and dance, childbirth, protection against evil, frivolity, and sex. And this is by no means a complete list of all she covered. Not only was she the goddess of all cats, but of all animals in general! If this wasn't enough, she was also the goddess of fire and of the moon. Several temples were dedicated to her, and each was home to countless cats which were treated as literal incarnations of the goddess. It almost goes without saying that any cat beloved and honored by their caretaker would feel quite at ease should they be given this honorable name.
So they think I might be about half-way through my pregnancy. Most cats are pregnant for about 60-
67 days. You can definitely see my protruding belly. And my foster mom has been putting her hand on my belly to see if she can feel the kittens moving. I think it's fun to move around so she can't get a still hand to feel. I love getting my belly rubbed, and ooh, when my right below my ears is scratched, I get even louder in purring!
